'Mrs. Hegarty,' an Irish cultivar of Hesperantha coccinea (formerly Schizostylis coccinea), is described in all the literature as blooming primarily September through November. In zones that are less year-round temperate than is true on Puget Sound, perhaps kaffirs really do bloom only in Autumn.


Macplants

'Mrs Hegarty' is a herbaceous perennial to 60cm in height, forming a clump of erect, grassy, light green leaves, and upright stems bearing loose spikes of cup-shaped, pale pink flowers up to 6cm across. This historic cultivar has medium-broad, rather cupped petals with a thin darker stripe up the middle, and pinkish or yellowish anthers.
